Privacy
Looking for your next role should never cost you your current one.
This is our privacy notice, written to be read rather than filed. It covers what we collect, why we collect it, and the promises we keep for every candidate. It follows POPIA in South Africa and the UK GDPR.
Last reviewed: [Month YYYY]
The candidate privacy guarantee
Three promises, all of them tested. A candidate should be able to look for their next role on Vali with no chance of their current employer finding out.
Never in search or AI answers
Your name, photo and words never appear in a search engine result or an AI answer. Candidate profiles are closed to search engines and to AI crawlers, so a business reaches you through Vali or not at all.
A person reads it first
Every profile is reviewed by a real person before it goes live. Nothing about you publishes automatically, and nothing publishes without your consent.
Your current employer cannot see you
A blocking system, audited every night, keeps your current employer, and anyone else you name, from finding you on Vali. If a match is ever unclear, we hide you rather than risk it.
What we collect, and why
We ask for what it takes to vet you fairly and list you accurately, and nothing more. Each thing below has a reason next to it.
- Your profile
- Name, country, role category, headline, a short bio, the pay you expect and when you can start. This is what a business sees, so it is the part you write and control.
- Your CV
- Your work history and skills, so we can build your profile and check that it lines up with your assessment.
- Your assessment
- Audio answers to our question cards, any skills test you take, and an optional intro video. We use these to score your work honestly and to show that score to businesses.
- Identity for verification
- A government ID to confirm you are who you say, and, if you give it, your work email domain. The work email domain is used only to block your employer from seeing you. We never contact it.
Your consent, and your control
You choose to be here
Before your profile publishes, you agree to two separate things: that we can show your profile to businesses, and that we can process your data to vet and list you. Both are tick-boxes, and both are yours to give or refuse.
Delete it any time
From your dashboard you can take your whole profile down and purge your contact details in one action. When you do, businesses lose access straight away and your details stop being shown.
We never charge candidates
Vali takes 0% of your pay, and you never pay us a penny. There is no candidate payment account for us to hold, by design.
Your rights, and how to use them
Under POPIA and the UK GDPR you can do all of the following, and we will not make it hard.
- See a copy of what we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Delete your profile and your data.
- Withdraw a consent you gave, at any time.
- Ask us to stop a particular use of your data.
- Complain to a regulator if you are not happy with our answer.
To make a request, email info@vali.example and tell us what you want. We reply within 30 days. If our answer does not settle it, you can complain to the Information Regulator in South Africa or the ICO in the United Kingdom.
What we will never do
Vali is an introduction and vetting service. We never sit in the employment or the payment chain. We never sell your data. We never tell a candidate which business has viewed or unlocked them, and we never show your current employer to you either. The promises above are built into the database, not just the design.
The rest of what we show, and hide
We publish our live counts, pass rates and prices, and we say plainly what we keep private and why. The transparency page holds the fuller picture.
